How to Have an Ethical and Sustainable Wedding Day

I’m posting this to my blog as an archive as I update the portfolio section of my website. This 2020 photo session was featured on Love My Dress. It is a sustainability styled shoot created by a team of caring wedding creatives to help couples make kinder and more sustainable choices for their stylish and contemporary wedding. Tips on how to have a more eco and ethical wedding;⁣

Grown not flown flowers 🌾

… @nicebunch grows her own in Britain! ⁣

Natural confetti.

Think about using dried petals as opposed to paper or plastic. To think of all the micro pieces of plastic that are thrown around in peak wedding season every day is scary. 🌺

Use a Stationer who uses eco Perspex free paper.

@allmyyears_ goes beyond this, in the place holders has little seeds so you can grow wildflowers from them after the wedding!!! All My Years aka Amy is the designer of invites in this picture 🌻

Choose wedding attire that you can and will wear more than once.

Tradition is only relevant as long as it can be justified. Can we justify one use items anymore with an environmental crisis? Wedding stylist @blondearmy can tell you more about that! 👔👘

 Vegan leather shoes or boots!

@beyondskin are so frikkin chic and shows how kind fashion is taking things to the next level. ⁣👡

 Vegan cakes!

So delicious and you cannot tell the difference, @beesbakery will show you that. Book yourself in for a tasting when lockdown is over! 🧁

Cruelty free make up.

Find a make up artist like @mels.brides who knows about cosmetics such as @code8beauty that can offer luxurious and kind products to make you look your best – guilt free! 💄

Invest in good projects or plant a native tree!

As a photographer I use Ecologi to counteract my carbon foot print. For every album purchased at full price, I will donate to a tree charity to put some goodness back into areas of deforestation. 🌲
You too can think about donating to tree planting charities to counter what impact you think your wedding may have. It is hard to be 100% angelic so this can help weigh the balance. Especially if you are having a destination wedding and flights are involved!⁣
Or maybe find somewhere local you can plant some trees together as a memory to you day that you can watch grow over the years, and visit with kids and grandkids! ⚖️
…⁣
That is just the start of many ways you can make positive changes. By having such a wedding, you will also educate all those gorgeous guests of yours and good ideas will spread! 💚
